Obituary of Elizabeth Cashman

Cashman, Elizabeth “Betty”  (nee McKinley) 96 of Marmora, NJ passed away October 29, 2018. Betty was a founding member of the Church of the Resurrection in Marmora, moving here in 1974. She was born in West Philadelphia, PA on May 19, 1922, the fourth child of John and Marie McKinley. She attended Our Lady of Victory Elementary School and graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in 1939. After working as a secretary for three years at Hajoca Corporation, she joined the U.S.C.G (SPARS) in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. She entered the Philadelphia Sisters of Mercy in 1947 and after teaching at Gwynedd-Mercy College for 18 years, she left the convent and found her way to the shore where she taught at ACC for sixteen years. She retired in 1983 and spent the rest of her days as a volunteer at Resurrection Church in the capacity of Sacristan, EM, Lector, Liturgy Committee, Bereavement Committee and Trustee. During her time at Resurrection, she coordinated the Food Pantry, volunteered at RVNA on the Auxiliary Board, in the Food Bank and as a hospice volunteer for seven years. At the same time, she was on the UT Rescue Squad. In 1976, she married William J. Cashman, a Knight and Past GK of Resurrection Counsel 9113.

She was predeceased by her husband, William in 2016. Surviving are a sister, Muriel Carpenter of Aston, PA, a brother, James McKinley of Cape May Court House, NJ and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Resurrection will be offered Friday morning at 11 o’clock from The Church of the Resurrection of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ where friends may call from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Burial will follow mass in Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ.
