Obituary of William M. Canizzaro

William Canizzaro, of Palermo New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. He celebrated his 100th birthday on February 24, 2019.

Born in Patterson, NJ, he was formerly of Ocean City, NJ moving to Palermo two years ago.

 Mr. Canizzaro is a WW2 veteran who served as a 1st Class Seaman on the USS Navy Ship called "Chourre." He was the repair and supply maintenance personnel in Tokyo Bay, Japan. Mr. Canizzaro received 4 Honorable Discharges from Civilian Conservation Corps, US Navy, US National Guard and the US Army. Mr. Canizzaro received American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War 2 Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Honorable Discharge Button, Honorable Service Lapel Pin (Ruptured Duck) and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 524 in Ocean City, NJ.

He was self employed after the war as a Heavy Equipment Operator and owned Swift Construction Company and Zaro Construction Company. He also worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Ocean City for 15 years.

Surviving are three children, Anthony E. Canizzaro (Louisa) of Marmora, NJ, Adria A. McClure (Ken) of Woodbine, NJ, Angelina Joyce Canizzaro (Jim) of Palermo, NJ, eight grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren.

His Funeral Service will be offered Saturday at 12 noon from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ where friends may call from 11 o’clock until the time of service. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ 08223.
