Obituary of William O'Malley
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Edward O’Malley (Bill), age 69, passed away in Ocean City, NJ on Monday, June 6th, 2022. Bill attended Mainland Regional High School and spent most of his life in New Jersey. He graduated from Stockton College, and went on to earn a Master's degree in Public Health from Rutgers. He participated in Future Problem Solvers and was proud of his work helping kids there. He briefly lived in New York City, and was dedicated to improving public health in the city. Bill was very proud of his two daughters, and helped them earn degrees at Fordham and Syracuse Universities. He traveled to the Bronx to watch Jennifer play rugby and loved the art installation Christa created at Syracuse. Bill could usually be found with a good book and a cup of coffee, on a porch if possible. He made a mean breakfast and was an excellent chef. Over his career, he managed a number of establishments including the Swarthmore Hotel in Ocean City and the Flamingo restaurant in Atlantic City. He also enjoyed cooking for family, and his niece, Caitlin, has fond memories of assisting him in trying out different fudge recipes. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren Sophia, Luca, Maya, and Bianca. He could typically be found hauling a huge bag of quarters to the Ocean City boardwalk so they could play games at the arcade, and even rode some of the rides with them! Bill sent his grandkids a subscription to National Geographic magazine to learn about nature and sent Luca articles about space, encouraging his interest. During the Covid lockdown, he co-wrote stories with Maya as they spent many hours on Skype. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles or gambling with his brothers on the Masters golf tournament. He loved the Boston Red Sox and encouraged his nephew Liam to become a fan. Survivors include his daughter Jennifer Ladd, and her husband Dennis, his daughter Christa O’Malley and her husband Lorenzo, twin brothers, Ronald and Donald O’Malley, granddaughters Sophia, Maya and Bianca, and grandson Luca. Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, Geraldine and William O’Malley, and brother Jerome O’Malley. A service in celebration of his life will be held at St. James Church of the Holy Trinity in Ventnor on Monday, June 13th at noon. Donations may be made to the Ocean City library, one of his favorite spots, or any local library in need of support. For condolences to the family, visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com
