Obituary of John Joseph Patrick

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John J. Patrick, Sr. ‘Jack’ of Ocean City, New Jersey passed peacefully at home on September 13, 2022.  He was 88.  Born June 28, 1934, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Frank and Marie (née Bouffard) Patrick, he was the youngest of three children, preceded in death by the eldest Stanley and survived by his beloved sister, Ann Zenker.   He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1952 and Villanova University in 1957 with a BS in Economics & Accounting.

Jack began his career in Public Accounting working for Lally and Co. in Philadelphia, where he would meet Ann Timothy, who become his wife on November 28, 1959.  Jack served in the Air National Guard for 6 years.  Jack and Ann’s first home was in Secane, PA. and in 1966 moved to Morton, PA, where they raised their 5 children.  In 1961, he joined the audit department of Peat, Marwick, and Mitchell (KPMG) and while there also earned his CPA.  In 1967, Jack began working at the University of Pennsylvania, as a Business Manager in the School of Medicine.  Jack worked at PENN over 30 years in positions of increasing responsibility until eventually running the Finance Business Office as Comptroller for the School of Medicine.  In 1996, Jack and Ann became full time residents in Ocean City, New Jersey. After a long, beautiful marriage of 42 years, Ann passed away in 2001.  In 2006, Jack would find love again and married Helen on May 29, 2006.  They would go on to have a happy 16-year marriage and enjoy travel, spending time at The Villages in Florida and having fun with family and friends.

Jack was many things in his 88 years.  A son who cared deeply for his parents, a loving brother, a classmate, friend, patriot, mentor, devoted husband, loving father, amazing PopPop, recent great grandfather, a Knight in the Knights of Columbus, active parishioner, coach & league director (Folsom Boys Club, Ridley Basketball), avid Phillies and Eagles fan, and his number one, by far favorite was V for Villanova .. V for victory!  He was also an accomplished camper and brought his family to 46 of the 50 United States. Extremely handy, truly ingenious in how he solved problems and ALWAYS available to anyone who needed his help.  Jack was so faith filled and greatly devoted to our Lord and was universally known as just a Great Guy.

Jack is survived by his wife Helen; his five children (wives):  Patty, John (Joan), Michael (Joyce), Paul (Kris), and Mark (Michelle); his 11 grandchildren – Ryan, Megan, Laura , Sara, Leah , Colleen, Katelyn, Scott, Liana, Curtis and Josh and two great grandchildren, Jack & Corinne.  As well as the love of Helen’s four children Greta, Kathy, Nancy and Jennifer, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
